If you've never booked a professional gutter clean before, you probably don't know what's involved. That's fair — most people haven't. Some reckon a bloke just rocks up with a ladder and scoops out some leaves. There's a bit more to it than that.
Here's exactly what happens from the moment you pick up the phone to when you get your before-and-after photos.
Step 1: Getting a Quote
When you call or fill in the online quote form, I'll ask you a few questions to give you an accurate price:
- Property type — house, townhouse, unit, or commercial
- How many storeys — single or two-storey (this affects access and time)
- Roof type — Colorbond, tile, or something else
- Tree cover — are there trees overhanging or near the roof?
- When were they last cleaned— gutters that haven't been touched in five years take longer than ones done annually
Most quotes are done over the phone in a couple of minutes. For trickier properties — multi-level, unusual access, or commercial — I might ask for some photos or do a quick drive-by to give you an accurate number.

Step 2: Booking In
Once you're happy with the quote, we lock in a date. Scheduling is flexible — most jobs get booked within a few days, though in peak season (April-May before winter) it can be a week or two out.
You don't always need to be home.If I can access the gutters from ground level and the property doesn't have locked side gates, I can get the job done without you being there. I'll send you the before-and-after photos when it's finished so you can see exactly what was done.
If there's a locked backyard, a dog that needs containing, or specific access requirements, we'll sort out a time that works for both of us.
Step 3: On the Day
This is where the actual work happens. Here's the process step-by-step:
Arrive and set up safely
I turn up on time with everything needed — ladders, vacuum, harness for two-storey work, drop sheets if required. Safety is non-negotiable. Two-storey homes always involve proper harness and anchor point setup.
Before photos
Before anything gets touched, I photograph the current state of your gutters. This does two things: it shows you exactly what was up there (you'd be surprised), and it creates a record for insurance purposes or property management reports.
Remove all debris from gutters
Every section of guttering gets cleared — by hand and vacuum. This includes pulling out compacted leaf matter, removing built-up silt, and clearing anything that's blocking the gutter channel. Nothing gets left behind.
Test and flush all downpipes
A clean gutter means nothing if the downpipes are blocked. Every downpipe gets tested with water to confirm it's flowing freely. If one's blocked, it gets flushed out until it runs clear. This is the step a lot of cheaper operators skip — and it's the step that actually prevents water damage.
Roof inspection
While I'm up there, I check your roof for obvious issues — cracked or slipped tiles, damaged ridge capping, rusted screws on Colorbond, blocked valleys, or anything else that looks like it needs attention. If I spot something, I'll let you know and take a photo so you can get it sorted before it becomes a bigger problem.

Clean up
All debris gets cleaned up and removed from your property. No piles of muck left on your driveway or garden beds. The place should look the same as when I arrived — except your gutters are now spotless.
After photos
Once everything's done, I take after photos from the same angles as the before shots. You get a clear side-by-side comparison showing exactly what you paid for.
Step 4: After the Clean
You'll receive your before-and-after photos, usually the same day. These are handy for a few reasons:
- Insurance records— shows you're maintaining the property properly
- Property managers— if it's a rental, your manager has documented proof of maintenance
- Your own peace of mind — you can see exactly what was up there and what it looks like now
How Long Does It Take?
Time depends on the size and condition of your property:
- Standard single-storey home: 1 to 2 hours
- Two-storey home: 2 to 3 hours (longer setup time for safe access)
- Badly neglected gutters: add 30-60 minutes for compacted debris removal
A well-maintained home that gets cleaned annually is always quicker and cheaper than one that's been left for years.
Do You Need to Be Home?
Not always. If all gutters are accessible from ground level or the front of the property, and there are no locked gates or dogs, I can do the job without you there. You'll get a heads-up when I arrive and your photos when it's done.
You do need to be home (or leave access) if:
- There's a locked side gate or backyard
- You've got a dog that needs to be put inside
- Access requires going through the house
What's Included vs What's Extra
A standard gutter clean from Pristine includes:
- Full gutter clearing (all sections)
- Downpipe testing and flushing
- Roof condition check
- Before and after photos
- Debris removal from the property
Additional services quoted separately:
- Gutter guard removal and reinstallation — if your guards need removing to clean underneath
- Solar panel cleaning — while we're up there, makes sense to do both
- Roof repairs — if we spot cracked tiles or damaged capping
